Na Steam Dev Days konferenci (udeleženih je bilo kar 1200 razvijalcev), je Valve napovedal redizajn kontrolerja. Kontroler na sredini NE bo vseboval sprva planiranega touch ekrana, ampak 2x4 gumbe v klasični D-pad postavitvi. Do te spremembe bi naj prišlo zaradi boljše kompatibilnosti s starejšimi igrami. Uradnih slik kontrolerja še ni, bi pa naj izgledal približno takole:

Valve je tudi potrdil, da bo kontroler napajan iz AA baterij, torej se jih bo dalo enostavno zamenjati.

Čisto možno je, da bo kontroler doživel še kakšen redizajn, na podlagi pridobljenih povratnih informacij 300 beta uporabnikov.

Napovedan je bil tudi okvirni datum izida Alienware Steam naprave: semptember

Trenutno je glede specifikacij tega računalnika znano le: Intel Haswell CPU in Nvidia GPU, vse ostalo je neznanka

Število Steam uporabnikov je v 3 mesecih naraslo za kar 15% (iz 65 mil. na 75 mil.)!

Od tega 7 milijonov uporabnikov uporablja tudi njihovo uradno Steam aplikacijo na mobilnih napravah (55% Android, 45% iOS):

Sam še direkt SteamOS nisem probal, uporabljam pa že en čas work-around, da se loginaš direkt v big picture kot desktop environment. Sicer bolj poredko, ker (zaenkrat) ne čutim potrebe, ker ko sem na PCju itak večinočasa multitaskam, ter mi ni v interesu rebootati v steamOS za pol urce preden spet grem malo forume ter maile čekirat, kak video pogledat, ter potem spet rebootati za še par lvlov igre itd. (Vsekakor odvisno tudi kaj igraš. Na PCju večinoma igram igre, ki ne žerejo preveč ter ne čutim potrebe po namenskem OS)

Sprva sem bil cel vzhičen ter poln pričakovanj bete, sedaj pa še niti nisem sprobal.

Izid Steam kontrolerja je zamaknjen v leto 2015.

"It's generating a ton of useful feedback, and it means we'll be able to make the controller a lot better. Of course, it's also keeping us pretty busy making all those improvements. Realistically, we're now looking at a release window of 2015, not 2014."

Ponovno nova revizija kontrolerja:

The Steam Controller has seen a new revision, according to a design document leaked from files in the latest Steam Client Beta.

As reported by ValveTime, this new design adds what appears to be a D-pad on top of - or in lieu of - the left trackpad. It's not entirely clear if this means the D-pad has replaced the trackpad wholesale, but it's hard to imagine using the rest of the pad for anything else with a big plus symbol protruding from it.

The Vive is manufactured by HTC and powered by Valve's SteamVR. A consumer version is due out "holiday 2015", so it'll probably beat rival VR headsets Oculus Rift and Morpheus to market. A developer version will be available in the spring.

HTC said that as the Vive is powered by SteamVR, plenty of games that use it will be available soon on Steam.

The Vive features a 1200 x 1080 pixel screen in front of each eye, with a refresh rate of 90 frames per second. HTC says it fills your field of vision in all directions, thus avoiding the jitter associated with other VR devices.

Also included is a gyrosensor, accelerometer, and laser position sensor that, according to HTC, combine to track the rotation of your head on both axes to an accuracy of 1/10th of a degree.

You can couple the headset with a pair of SteamVR base stations to track your physical location in spaces up to 15 feet by 15 feet. So, you'll be able to get up and walk around inside Half-Life - virtually. There's an audio jack on the side of the headset, into which you can plug headphones.

Elsewhere, you can use VR game controllers in each hand to virtually use objects and interact with the virtual world.

It's clear HTC has plans for the Vive that go beyond gaming, and it's already working with Google, HBO, Lionsgate and the National Palace Museum in Taiwan to build virtual reality experiences. But video game developers are also interested. Vertigo Games, Bossa, Fireproof and Dovetail are all involved.

The first Vive "game" is called Job Simulator, and it's developed by virtual reality specialist Owlchemy Labs. It looks like little more than a tech demo at this stage, that may or may not be fleshed out into a full release.

With the newly established publishing arm, Starbreeze is also launching a number of entertainment industry content collaborations. Early content partners include Lionsgate, Skybound, 505 Games, Grab and WeVR.

Starbreeze will showcase its StarVR HMD at the trade show E3 in Los Angeles on June 16-18.

Kar naredi ta VR očala posebna je to, da imajo namesto enega samega ekrana, vgrajena kar dva!

Posledično sta izboljšani 2 zadevi:

  • izredno širok horizontalni vidni kot. Oculus ga ima 110°, Project Morpheus 100°,... StarVR pa kar 210°!

  • resolucija VR očal: 5120x1440 pikslov oz. 2560x1440 po očesu (največ do sedaj).

Škoda edino da so LCD zasloni in ne OLED.
