Oculus Rift je naglavni prikazovalnik / head-mounted display moderne dobe, v osnovi podoben stvaritvam iz 80ih in 90ih, ki smo jih gledali v filmih in okušali doma (*kreh*Virtual Boy*kreh*), vendar nafilan z moderno tehnologijo, ki očitno dejansko pričara fenomenalen efekt virtualne resničnosti.

Razvil ga je nek stric Palmer Luckey, dolgotrajni navdušenec nad HMDji, nad njim navdušil idjevega šefeta in vizionarja Johna Carmacka, s katerim sta zadevo nadaljno izpilila, potem pa je za dodatna sredstva ponucal Kickstarter in namesto zaželjenih 250 tisoč dolarjev pridobil dobra 2 milijona. Sledili so prikazi na parih sejmih, navdušenje drugih razvijalcev (npr. Valvea) in prve javne predstavitve, kjer folk ostaja brez besed. No, ne, najbolj pogosta je očitno "Holy fucking shit".

Oculus so v osnovi očala, sestavljena iz dveh malih LCDjev, vsakega z resolucijo 640x800 (v trenutni razvijalski verziji, končna prodajna naj bi imela 960x1080 za full HD resolucijo), ki združena prikažeta popoln 3d efekt. Obenem je sistem natrpan z giroskopi, akcelerometri in magnetometri, ki zaznajo vsak najmanjši gib glave in ga izjemno hitro pretvorijo v premik v špilu. Baje je efekt neverjeten, možgani pa se dejansko odločijo, da je uporabnik v nekem drugem svetu.

Resno, zadevo je treba očitno sprobati v živo, da postaneš čisti believer, ampak glede na napisano in videno, sem jaz nad Oculusom 124x bolj nahypean kot nad katerokoli prihajajočo next-gen konzolo. :drool::love::hyper:

Da še tukaj naredim malo promocije, če že obstaja namenska tema:

Igra leta 2012 Journey in Oculus VR v Udarniku Maribor

Danes, 21.11 od 21. do 24. ure in v nedeljo od 15. do 17. ure, bo v Udarniku, na Grajskem trgu 1, Maribor, demonstracija očal za virtualno resničnost Oculus VR.

Po uspešni pridobitvi sredstev na Kickstarterju, ameriško podjetje Oculus VR načrtuje komercialno različico v naslednjem letu, že zdaj pa lahko preverite zgodnji prototip, ki ga posoja podjetje Motiviti. Skupaj s skupino za promocijo interaktivnih medijev Maribor Score bomo ugotavljali uporabnost tehnologije za nove oblike virtualne izkušnje.

No, včeraj sem bil na "predstavitvi" Oculus očal.

Moram rečt da sem bil razočaran, pa ne ravno nad delovanjem očal, ampak zaradi izjemno prekratkega preizkušanja očal.

Sprva so uvodno predstavili kratko zgodbo očal, kako se je hype začel na letošnjem E3. Vse lepo in prav, ampak... med tem razlaganjem se je nato zbralo okoli 50 ljudi in vsi so hoteli preizkusiti očala... predvidenega časa za očala pa je bil samo 1h! Tako sem lahko imel nadeta očala le 2 minuti, več pa ni bilo časa. :( Ker je celotna zadeva še v krepki beti (demoti se redno obešajo, zatikajo,...), sem imel izjemno slab 3D, kar je popolnoma uničilo celotno Oculus izkušnjo. Tako da nisem ravno izkusil pozitivnih občutkov, ki so jih vsi opisovali ob prvih izkušnjah z očali na E3 in kasnejših eventih. :wasted: Zadevo bi moral v miru stestirati in pravilno skalibrirati, da bi izkusil pravilne učinke, ampak žal v nedeljo nimam časa da bi se ponovno udeležil dogodka.

Je pa sama zadeva res TOP, kar se ideje tiče in prinaša čisto novo dimenzijo doživljanja okolice v igrah. Z obračanjem glave lahko veliko bolj naravno opazuješ okolico. Počutiš se kot v središču okolice, saj imaš ekran čisto pred očmi, vsak gib glave pa se takoj odrazi s premikom pogleda v igri.

Ampak takoj sem opazil težavo. Večina ljudi ni navajena obračanja glave ob igranju in tako si se moral v igri dejansko osredotočit, da si premikal glavo namesto premikal miško (predvsem v FPS demotu).

Kot drugo pomanjkljivost sem opazil da ko si nadaneš očala nimaš pojma kje sta miška in tipkovnica in ju slepo tipaš (po domače: slep si kot kura :D). K sreči je zraven bil pomočnik, ki je moral popolnoma vsakemu postaviti prste na WASD tipke in roko pomakniti na miško. :lol

Najzanimivejši so bili raziskovalni demoti, kjer si se sprehajal po pokrajini in jo v miru opazoval. Tu si se lahko najlažje preizkusil zmogljivost očal. Imeli so tudi demo kure, kjer si pobiral zrna s tal tako kot to delajo kokoši. Čuden ampak zabaven demo. :tepen: Baje obstaja tudi demo vlakca smrti, ki je zelo dober, a ga žal ni bilo nameščenega na PC-ju.

Težava je, da bi naj zadeva stala 300$ ob splavitvi in bi že naj bila na tržišču, a se je izdaja zavlekla in jo sedaj obljubljajo v v 2014.

Da pa niso očala samo še ena eksotika pripomočkov za PC, pa dokazuje, da so zadevo zagreto prijela v roke priznana podjetja kot so: ID software, Valve, DICE,... vsi ti nameravajo vgraditi native podporo v svoje igralne pogone! BF4 in Oculus! :love:

Ma, skoraj popolna tema je bila v sobi, pa še nisem hotel izpasti kot edini ki tam slika naokoli. :sweat:

Glede teže očal se sploh nisem zavzel, tako da bi rekel da niso težke, čeprav izgledajo velike. Tudi nisem zaznal da bi mi pritiskale na nos.

Ampak sej pravim, vse skupaj sem jih imel 2 minuti na glavi, ostalo pa sem lahko le opazoval druge. Kako se zadeva obnese ko jih imaš 2h na glavi je pa verjetno drugače.

En pred menoj je imel enako dilemo, ali naj ima očala gor ali jih naj raje da dol. No, potem mu je ta ki je vsakemu pomagal z miško in tipkovnico predlagal naj jih ima gor. Nič ni pojamral ko je končal s predstavitvijo. Ima pa Oculus ob strani kolešček z možnostjo nastavljanja od 0 navzdol ali navzgor, tako da predvidevam da je ravno ta namenjen dioptriji.

Nov mejnik... podjetje, ki želi Oculus očala pripeljati do realnosti, je zbralo vrtoglavih 75 milijonov dolarjev!

Oculus VR will have a very merry Christmas indeed after it raised $75 million to help complete the consumer version of the Rift headset.

Oculus began life after it raised an impressive $2.4 million through crowd-funding website Kickstarter. It then raised another $16 million in a Series A funding round. Over 40,000 development kits have been sold. The consumer version is still without a release date.

Zadeva je boljša in boljša!

Globinsko premikanje je definitivno zelo dobrodošla funkcija, je pa žal potrebna dodatna oprema - kamera.

Be Another Lab has created the next best thing by staging a symmetrical set of two identical spaces, then having two participants wear Oculus Rifts to see what the other person is seeing. By doing this the participants are able to virtually body swap

Unfortunately, the only way to get the simulation to work is if both parties follow the same movements, lest the illusion be broken. Still, it's a neat way to at least catch a fleeting glimpse of what it's like to be someone else.

Izgleda ZELO zabavno!

obrazložitev: deminer je v VR svetu z bombo in nima pojma kako pravilno defuzati. Ekipa "strokovnjakov" z branjem navodil, govorom, feedbackom,... usmerja deminerja, kako pravilno defuzati. Aja, keč je, da je bomba časovno tempirana. :D

Na iFixit so pod drobnogled dobili DK2 in ga seveda razstavili. Kot najbolj zanimiva komponenta se je izkazal ekran, ki ga izdeluje Samsung.

Jup, gre kar za popolnoma enak 5.7" Super AMOLED 1080p ekran, ki ga Samsung uporablja v svojem Note 3 z rahlo sfrizirano frekvenco osveževanja (iz 60 na 75Hz). :D
