Remote Play itself is nothing new of course - PSP and Vita had lacklustre, laggy support for a handful of PS3 games - but Vita itself has seen virtually no additional support, despite the introduction of a higher-quality 480p protocol. Indeed, those running hacked PS3 firmwares have had access to the most games. The problem is that PS3 Remote Play is based around software video encoding via the Cell's SPUs, and developers are not keen on sacrificing that CPU time for Remote Play support, while the technology itself is slow to respond, with dodgy image quality.

The #PS4NoDRM movement has 150+ articles in 15+ languages in three days

Dear Publishers,

c.c. Wired, Yahoo, HuffPost et al.

You might be wondering what the above hashtags really mean.

Simply put, they are requesting you to keep things on PS4 as they are on PS3, when it comes to physical disc rights and secondhand discs.

Microsoft has ignited a firestorm in announcing a strategy for Xbox One that would see consumers unable to lend a disc to friends, unable to privately sell or swap a disc, and only able to trade discs at pre-approved retail.

We believe this is a big mistake, and we’d like you not to share in it.

Many arguments are made against secondhand games, and we respect the concern publishers often have about lost revenue. However, we would offer some points to consider:

A secondhand game player is not necessarily a lost new game sale. You recognise this concept yourself in the PS+ service - allow people to play something without paying full price, and many more will play, experience and talk about a game - and purchase DLC or future iterations. However they would not all have necessarily bought the original game new - not by a big margin.

There is 15+ years of precedent in how physical discs should behave across multiple PlayStation platforms. Please bear in mind the very strong consumer psychology of loss aversion.

Applying digital rules to physical discs after the fact won’t work. You may be thinking ‘well, you can’t buy secondhand on Steam or iOS, and they do fine!’ - but the expectations of digital and physical are completely different.

Gamers who buy used represent an opportunity for you. They are the perfect target for new models like PS+, F2P, Gaikai streaming, microtransactions etc. Use new digital models as a carrot to monetise players with limited disposable income. Don’t use sticks.

If physical distribution is entering its twilight years, let it fade gracefully, and let consumers gravitate toward digital models voluntarily and naturally. Don’t change the physical ecosystem at this late point in the game.

Game retail will love you. They represent a massive touchpoint for gamers who’ll be trying to choose between two next-generation consoles this holiday.

Consoles have more competition now than ever before. This is not the time to rock the boat against consumer control of discs. There are many of us who only buy new games and never resell, and we worry about the effect of policies like this on the popularity of console gaming, and thus its longer term viability.

Microsoft has stumbled on this issue. This is a huge public relations and strategic opportunity for you to win the hearts and minds of gamers confused and alienated by Microsoft’s approach. Win those customers by leaving physical discs alone, and monetise them in innovative and progressive ways like PS+.

Naughty Dog will use existing Uncharted, The Last of Us engine for PS4

Naughty Dog will keep its existing in-house engine used in Uncharted and The Last of Us for the PS4, the developer has revealed.

Game director Bruce Straley explained how it won't repeat past mistakes of developing a new engine from scratch for a new console generation, as it did when it started work on Uncharted for the PS3.

"We learned a big lesson coming from PS2 to PS3," he told Digital Spy.

"There was a lot of hype over what next-gen was going to be. It was all going to be like movies, like a pre-rendered cutscene-style fidelity.

"That turned out not to be true. Granted, what we're able to do now is pretty damn close, but it took Naughty Dog four games to get there - one of the top developers in the industry with some on the most amazing scientists working in our programming department."

"We scrapped everything at the beginning of Uncharted 1, and we had a perfectly good engine with the Jak & Daxter franchise.

"We could have started with something there and then built off of it and only changed the pieces and parts as we needed, when we needed. And that really caused a lot of turmoil.

"Again, we were creating a new IP, with a new engine, with a lot of weird expectations. Nobody had a dev kit soon enough, and as we all know, trying to figure out how to programme for a whole new piece of hardware was really difficult.

Straley continued: "We learned our lesson in saying, as we move into development into next-gen, we want to take our current engine, port it immediately over as is and say, 'Okay, we have a great AI system, we have a good rendering system'.

"We have all these things that already work. Only when we hit a wall will we say, 'When do we need to change something? When do we need to scale it?

"'When does the gameplay, when does the story, when does the world that we need to create - when does this engine hit the wall? Right, now we need to change this part of the engine.'

"Hindsight's 20-20, and it sounds obvious to say it, but it's one of those things that you learn in development. We've gained something from this experience, and now we want to apply it moving into next gen."

fak, kako hitro se ti nekej lahko zameri. no, beseda "zameri" ni najbolj ustrezna. "odlajka", mogoče bolj. v hipu. počakajmo še E3, pol bodo zadeve (še) lažje.

Bolj me zanima koliko od teh iger jih bo launch day al pa vsaj tam blizu. Osebno od ekskluziv si želim Killzone in Infamous Second Son launch day, od neekskluziv pa Blacklight Retribution, Wolfenstein, Battlefield? Upam da nam že jutri oz. pojutrišnjem vsaj delno odgovorijo glede tega, da ne bo samo konzola v ospredju.
