Rumor: Red Dead Redemption sequel teased by former Rockstar developer

During a recent reddit Q&A session, a former Rockstar employee hinted that the studio's next launch will be a sequel to one of the greatest Western-style video games ever made: Red Dead Redemption.

When Danny Ross was asked to provide some "real news" on the next Rockstar game, he gave a coded response that can only point to "Red Dead Redemption 2", given the first letters of each word, followed by the number.

..."Really? Dumbass. Really? Two."...
While the sequel is unlikely to be called Red Dead Redemption 2 (since RDR is itself a sequel to 2004's Red Dead Revolver), it ranks high on the list of franchises Rockstar will be looking at in the wake of GTAV's ridiculous success. I just learned VBA for my job and wanted to get familiar with it. Because I love XCOM I decided to make it my project to code a complete XCOM game in excel. The game is set between the events of XCOM:EW and XCOM 2, where a group of guerilla fighters try to liberate their city from ADVENT control.
Anyways, only the tactical game is finished so far, but I am happy to say that what is there works quite well :)

On 30th Anniversary of Disaster, Explore Chernobyl in Virtual Reality

On the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear-power-plant catastrophe – the greatest human-caused industrial and environmental disaster in history – Polish game developer The Farm 51 is developing The Chernobyl VR Project, a virtual-reality adventure that will put players in the role of a documentary crew sent to uncover secrets surrounding the tragic event. From the comfort of their homes, players will travel to photorealistic recreations of numerous areas in Chernobyl and Pripyat, where they’ll explore the Restricted Zone, seek clues about past events and help an old survivor find his family memoires.

Via its state-of-the-art Reality 51 technology, The Farm 51’s Chernobyl VR Project will offer players unprecedented access to the site of the catastrophe and the nearby city of Pripyat. In addition to the game the team is developing, an educational component is in the works. Since more than 350,000 inhabitants were evacuated in the aftermath of the disaster, access to the area has been highly restricted and closely monitored; the Chernobyl VR Project will break down those barriers in the form of an interactive documentary, compatible with multiple VR headsets, including Oculus, PlayStation VR, Vive or Samsung Gear VR.

The team at The Farm 51 was granted special scientific access to areas unavailable to tourists, spending dozens of hours in the area and using its Reality 51 technology to scan locations in Chernobyl and Pripyat in photorealistic detail. Minor details, including paint peeling off the walls, scuffs on an abandoned amusement-park ride, and rust on an old cash register are captured with exceptional accuracy utilizing photogrammetry and stereoscopic, 360-degree camera technology. Players and virtual visitors will be free to explore and engage with places that have hitherto been off limits, losing themselves in a one-of-a-kind, interactive documentary.

Telltale Games, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment Announce Game Series based on Batman for 2016

Telltale Games, with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment, today announced an interactive episodic game series based on DC Comics’ iconic Batman that is set to premiere in 2016. The official title for the Telltale series is yet to be revealed.

The episodic game series will premiere digitally on home consoles, PC/Mac, and mobile devices. Specific platform details are yet to be announced.

“At Telltale, we’ve been honored to bring our unique approach to interactive storytelling to some of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world, and we’re excited to announce that we’ll soon be exploring what it means to be Batman in an all-new series starting next year,” said Kevin Bruner, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games. “This iteration of Batman will give fans a first-hand opportunity to dive deeper into the complex life and mind of Bruce Wayne, the duality of his own identity, and the struggle of responsibility in saving a city overcome with corruption and villainy.”

“Telltale has an established track record of creating award-winning content for some of the best properties in the world,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “We look forward to working with the team as they deliver a new interactive way for fans and gamers to experience the rich narrative world of Batman.”

Revealed on-stage at The Game Awards 2015 in Los Angeles, the full announcement teaser trailer will be available for online viewing later this week.

Ubisoft is probably working on an Assassin’s Creed collection of some kind, according to a new domain registration by the French publisher.

The new domain, simply titled ‘assassinscreedcollection.com’, was spotted by a NeoGAF member earlier. It doesn’t reveal any details and has yet to go live.

Going over domain ownership and related info through WhoIs, confirms Ubisoft registered it on December 11.

BioShock creator Ken Levine's mysterious new project features a small-scale open world.

The decision to feature open world gameplay stems from something Levine has been discussing for a while: how to increase the replayability of top-notch narrative games.

"The AAA, single-player narrative game is starting to disappear," Levine explained. "Kind of games like BioShock. There's fewer of them being made.

"The real reason is they're very expensive to make and I think gamers are saying pretty loud and clear that if they're going to spend $40, $50, $60, they want an experience that lasts more than 10-12 hours. That's a lot to ask somebody to spend."

BioShock Infinite was the final title from Levine's Irrational Games studio as we knew it. The developer has since been rebooted with a small team of veteran staff.

The studio is still part of publisher 2K, which is also exploring new options for the future of BioShock - likely, a new game made by a developer other than Levine.

"We started this experiment after we finished BioShock Infinite," Levine continued, "which was, 'How do you make a narrative game feel like the kind of games we've made before but make it replayable and make it extend and make it react to the players?'

"[You] make it replayable by giving players different ways to approach the problems and really letting them dictate the experience. That is not a simple problem to solve."

This approach - constructing a replayable story in a world which can be revisited multiple times - is a change for Levine after two big narrative-driven titles, where a singular story is being told.

Levine has previously described this approach as "narrative Lego".

There's no word yet on when we'll hear more of his new project, or when it will be released.

Assassin's Creed's next major entry is allegedly set in ancient Egypt and will serve as a prequel to the entire series, according to a series of reports.

Initially the rumour popped up an 4chan (later collected on NeoGAF), but Kotaku scrounged up multiple anonymous sources that confirmed a bulk of the information to be true.

Five folks confirmed the game would be set in Egypt, three noted that it would be released in 2017, and two mentioned its working subtitle Empire. One source explained that its 2017 release was in response to the backlash from Assassin's Creed: Unity's rushed development resulting in a buggy product at launch.

Kotaku's report said one source said months ago that the next game would be set in Rome, but this doesn't entirely conflict with the 4chan poster who said parts of the game had been cut and that Ubisoft was looking into expanding this epic into its own trilogy.

"The original game included Greece, which you can travel to. But it was cut from the game due to scale issues," the 4chan poster said. "So the naval side is now a mystery to me. There are talks about making a trilogy of this same character, so they might explore Greece/Rome next."

According to that poster, "it will be a complete revamp of the series. The game is going for a Witcher feel, with player progression, freeform combat system. Horse is back, and boats too. It's made by the Black Flag team."

The report also said you'll be playing as an escaped slave that resembles a darker-skinned Altair. They also noted that Empire will contain less recycling than previous entries and will be roughly three times the size of Black Flag.

"The biggest difference about this one is how colourful it looks," the poster said. "Like holy f***, blue skies, lush vegetations and desert sequences where you get mirage and s***. Also you have a pet eagle you can control."

While Ubisoft is seemingly skipping 2016 for a major Assassin's Creed title, it will wrap up its 2D Chronicles spin-off series with Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India due on 12th January and its Russia-based conclusion to follow on 9th February.

Amazon je predstavil svoj brezplačen game engine poimenovan Lumberyard:

Pogon temelji na CryEngine, tako da za napredno grafiko se ni potrebno bati. Omogoča razvoj za PS4, XO in PC (master race :)). V sam pogon je že integrirana Twitch podpora, kmalu pa mislijo dodati tudi podporo mobilnim napravam.

Na prvi pogled je le še en engine med mnogimi različicami, pa temu ni tako. Poseben je zaradi Amazonove cloud integracije (Amazon Web Services). Le ta ponuja praktično brezmejni prostor za shranjevanje in gromozansko računsko moč.

Engine je že na voljo in sicer v beta različici.
