Microsoft Announces New Xbox 360 Points Gifting System

Xbox Live director of programming Larry Hryb, better known as Major Nelson, has revealed as part of a new post in his popular weblog that Microsoft is offering an Xbox 360 Points gifting system, currently U.S. only.

Now, when purchasing Microsoft Points online at the official website (linked via Hryb's post), users may also elect to gift points to other U.S. users, using the recipient's Windows Live ID (not their Gamertag).

Users sign in as usual to the Microsoft Points site using their own Windows Live ID, and instead of purchasing points for themselves, may put in a friend as a recipient at the point of sale.

Major Nelson adds, "I have asked the team to add the ability to gift points based on Gamertag, and they said they'll work on that for the future, but for now… you'll need to know the recipients Windows Live ID. Anyway, I thought you guys may want to try if you have someone on your list you want to send some Points to this Holiday season.

Here’s the deal - if you mod your Xbox then Microsoft reserves the right to ban your Xbox from ever connecting to the Xbox Live online service. This isn’t the first time that Microsoft has taken this action, and Microsoft is well within its rights to do this (if you have any doubts, read the terms and conditions). Problem is, each time Microsoft takes this action, I hear from people who have been banned who claim that they have been banned despite running unmodded consoles. And each time the story is the same - there’s no one customers can turn to for help.

The problem isn’t so much that Microsoft might be mis-identifying unmodded consoles are modded ones, it’s the fact that there’s no one that users can turn to for help to discuss the problem. Several emails that I’ve received over the past few days make mention of tech support not being able to help “due to the nature of the ban” and that Microsoft is unable to take the consoles back under warranty to check whether they have been modded or not. If fact, customers being told that the only way to escape the ban is to buy a new console.

Talking with very reliable sources, and seeing evidence ourselves, Xbox Evolved believes that Microsoft, Rareware, MGM Studios (studio that makes the James Bond 007 movies) and Activision (holds the license for James Bond 007 titles right now) have come to an agreement to bring the Rareware developed Goldeneye 007 out to Xbox Live Arcade shortly before the new game developed by Activision is released.

The title will feature updated graphics, and of course an all-new Xbox Live multiplayer. Not only that, but we have found evidence that Rareware is planning on releasing even more of their back catalog onto Xbox Live Arcade, specifically, Perfect Dark and the original Banjo-Kazooie. Expect more on at least Goldeneye 007 later this year.

Sick goldeneye prihaja mogoče na live arcade, z online podporo. Ta špil je bil tak fun včasih, mapa facilitiy z motion detect minami. Lepo je videt, da bi kake stare klasike dobile online podporo, goldeneye je bila res huda igra v več igralcev, z dual stick kontrolami, lepšo grafiko, online podporo, kupim takoj.

Hm, nekaj me moti pri vsej tej zadevi. MGM je predlani bil kupljen s strani konzorcija, ki ga vodil Sony. Sami imajo noter 20% delez in mislim da so pooblasceni za glasovalne delnice dveh equity skladov, tako da nadzorujejo blizu 60% firme. Mocno dvomim, da so dali zeleno luc za izdajo Goldeneya na rivalni konzoli, ki je povrhu vsega se xbox. Bi prej to dovolili Nintendu..
