Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is an upcoming first-person shooter video game being developed by 2K Australia, to be published by 2K Games. It is the third game in the Borderlands series, and will be set between the events of the original game and its 2012 sequel, Borderlands 2. It is expected to be released for Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in late-2014.

The storyline of The Pre-Sequel will focus on Handsome Jack and his attempt to escape his exile from the Hyperion moonbase, and capture it for himself. The game's story will primarily be themed around how characters develop the traits of villainy; Pitchford stated that the game would explore how villains "can be morally ambiguous, doing possibly bad things for the right reasons and then have that reflect what [Handsome Jack] is doing. There are several quests in the game where literally the only narrative purpose they exist for is to show you that the bad guy you're fighting is not actually a horrible person."

The Borderlands gameplay of “shoot ‘n’ loot” will be present in The Pre-Sequel, with low-gravity and oxygen-powered jetpack combat, Cryo elemental damage type, laser weapon type, and new vehicles added to this new Borderlands title.

Predstavljeni so bili štirje igralni karakterji:

• Athena, the Gladiator: Uses her Kinetic Aspis, which is a shield that can absorb incoming damage, then convert it back into energy to use against enemies. Athena made her debut in The Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC for the first Borderlands game.
  
• Wilhelm, the Enforcer: Wilhelm was previously seen in Borderlands 2 as one of the first deadly bosses in the game.
  
• Nisha, the Lawbringer: The sheriff of Lynchwood from Borderlands 2, Nisha will be dealing out her own brand of justice, which we’ll discuss further in the coming months.
  
• Claptrap, the Fragtrap: Wait – Claptrap? The goofy robot companion from Borderlands 2, now playable for the first time? Fragtrap is his character class? Well, you can play him too!
